Redistricting . . . don’t let it sneak up on you.
I was driving down MacDonald Avenue and happened to see something about redistricting in West Contra Costa Unified School District on a digital sign.
After digging a bit, I found that the redistricting was occurring due to a lawsuit. I also found that this process (which involved creating maps) was coming to an end. And, that we didn’t have a Trustee for our area (District 2).
After inquiring further, a Trustee from another district said that maps were drawn equitably and that the current board representative for our area is Mister Phillips. In future elections, we would vote for candidates running in Trustee Area 2
I thought wow — a whole process was underway for several months. We didn’t receive anything in the mail, via email . . . nada!
I guess you can set a Google Alert for WCCUSD to ensure you receive info.
Congressman Mark DeSaulnier
I had a one-on-one with Congressman DeSaulnier to share some concerns about our community expecting that he could provide solutions regarding Las Deltas and infrastructure. Also, as he was in attendance for the rollout, I inquired about the status of the Quality of Life plan.
I asked if any of the funds from the American Rescue Plan came to our community. The answer is no – none of the funds came to our community. And though I followed up on other topics in our discussion, I haven’t heard back. I even offered recommendations . . . no response.
The one thing I found from our meeting is that due to the redistricting (census), his term ends for this area at the end of the year.
Whew! Don’t sleep on all that’s going on. Make an effort to know and keep pushing for substantive solutions.
