Urban Tilth recently celebrated local community heroes and the opening of its new rain gardens.
The Fred Jackson Way Rain Gardens project brought a new sidewalk, bike lane, and plant landscape. And the rain gardens not only look nice but filter the water from the roadway and lessen the pollution that goes into the creeks.
Several local heroes were honored: Janine Shaheed, Princess Robinson, Annie King-Meredith. Posthumously – Fred Jackson, Whitney Dotson, Mike Carlson, and Dr. Henry Clark.
The heroes were honored for their contribution to North Richmond and surrounding communities – from creeks to the shoreline to the youth, social justice, and environmental justice.
It was a beautiful day weatherwise and content-wise.
The community, artists, and honoree supporters came out.
Beautiful time. Beautiful people.
