We did a blog post about the three phases of revamping Las Deltas — blighted properties/land under the Housing Authority.
In the first phase, nonprofits were offered the opportunity to purchase units for $1.
In the second phase, the Housing Authority will sell remaining sites at market rate.
The third phase is the rebuilding of the Las Deltas Campus.
So, the first phase is over. Several nonprofits submitted proposals to refurbish some of the scattered sites. The following were awarded opportunities to bid:
Community Housing Development Corporation (CHCD)
Richmond Community Foundation (RCF)
Neighborhood Housing
RichmondLand
They will refurbish the properties (primarily duplexes) into inhabitable, affordable duplexes and single-family homes. These homes will be available to North Richmond first-time homebuyers (using 80% of median income.) The nonprofits have three years to complete their proposed housing.
In addition, RichmondLand is proposing an EcoVillage of tiny homes. These units will be part of a land trust model.
Each group should be presenting at the NRMAC at some point. They will also need to present to the Board of Supervisors.
