Dark streets. Yep, in North Richmond, your head lights are the streetlights.
The rhetoric. When there’s a new development in North Richmond, the developer will install streetlights.
Actuality: There’s a new development, with new streetlights. But guess what? The lights are not on.
Evidence: See the video below. This is driving at night on Pittsburg from the Richmond Parkway to Fred Jackson Way. The turn is onto Fred Jackson Way going towards Lucky A’s park.
As you can see from Pittsburg is dark and turning onto Fred Jackson Way – it’s dark.
The statement on its face is ridiculous. Developers will bring streetlights. So, North Richmond residents fight against the unwanted developments. Then, when they lose, the developer putting in streetlights is supposed to placate the residents? They’re supposed to look past the harm the businesses do to the community?
Further, what if there are no developers? Where are our tax dollars going? Where are the funds that should be coming to community going, e.g., North Richmond Mitigation, Veolia.
Maybe rather than using these funds to finance the Mobile Tool Shed and the failed, curb appeal project from an outside orgs, use the funds for community necessities.
Make it make sense. Redlining is supposed to be unlawful nowadays, but we can still see and feel the affects.
The community deserves to be made whole.
