Ok, so what is this Veolia company? I understand it’s a hazardous waste facility in North Richmond. They are currently seeking to renew their permit. So, look for the public comment opportunity.
I’ve also seen that they are a large company with many locations, including in Flint, Michigan. I saw their name mentioned in connection with Flint’s water fiasco.
I also know there are funds from Veolia that should go to Richmond and North Richmond communities. (You know, every time a company threatens the health of a neighborhood, the ‘remedy’ is to throw money at the neighborhood.)
These funds have not been distributed in quite some time, which I think is a local issue . . . governmental bottleneck? Residents have stepped up in Richmond and the City of Richmond to be on the committee to manage the distribution, so . . .
Regarding the permit renewal, I think DTSC and Veolia should present at the North Richmond Municipal Advisory Council meeting. Then, residents can prepare for the Public Comment period.
