There were many Earth Day celebrations around the Bay last month.
Here in North Richmond there were a couple of celebrations — one that was new and different — a FREE farmer’s market!
It was a collaboration between The Black Neighborhood, The Family Justice Center, Fresh Approach, Urban Tilth, White Pony Express, and McGlothen Temple.
It was a beautiful gathering and great to see everyone cheerfully working together. The organizations wanted the community to come and get what they needed without restrictions.
So while the organizations set their intentions, a line began to form.
Once the event started, residents came in to get canned foods, fresh produce, children’s jackets, and information from the Family Justice Center, and Fresh Approach.
It was a well-attended event!
Apparently, The Black Neighborhood has been providing this service for the last seven years in various locations. Some of its founders are from Richmond.
For the free farmers markets in North Richmond, they initially plan to have them quarterly.
