Black August came into existence at the end of the 1970s.
It speaks to Black resistance and Black self-determination.
It’s a time here in the United States and worldwide to pause, lift the names, and commemorate those Black folks who have resisted state oppression in this country, particularly in the United States (political prisoners).
The Jericho Movement and Black Power Media are sources of additional information.
Black August is a time to reflect, commemorate, be disciplined, exercise, diet, and organize for liberation.
Note that it is NOT Black History Month.
Mainstream media does not cover this commemoration. We bring you this excerpt courtesy of Dr. Greg Carr (Africana Studies) sharing on the subject. He also mentioned that there are Native American political prisoners.
