We have an election coming up on June 7! There are several candidates on the ballot, including judges and the sheriff.
Supervisor John Gioia
Supervisor Gioia is up for re-election.
He has been active in the North Richmond community and was the only one of the Board of Supervisors that voted against the expansion of the North Richmond jail.
He also has called for a moratorium on warehouses through October 2022. Of course, there is always room for improvement. We want that the moratorium to be indefinite. But, so far, he appears to be consistently committed to the residents of North Richmond.
Sheriff David Livingston
Sheriff Livington is up for re-election.
He proposed the North Richmond Jail expansion despite community objections. The expansion is $95.5 million.
County Board of Supervisors
Supervisors Federal Glover (Pittsburg), Diane Burgis (Brentwood), Candace Anderson (Danville), Karen Mitchoff (Clayton) all voted to move forward with the jail expansion and to use $15 million of the County’s general fund reserve for the project.
Questions.
- If you’re dealing with overflow in Martinez, why bring it to North Richmond?
- If you can make that type of investment in a project that the community doesn’t want, will you make that investment in projects the communities want? (Grocery co-op, street lights, housing $)
At any rate, North Richmond, make sure you’re registered! Vote for those who see you and have your best interest at heart.
